Working in Zante from the UK: What You Need to Know

Limestone sea stacks rising out of clear turquoise water on the Zante coastline, where UK workers spend their days off during a Laganas season

If you're thinking about working in Zante from the UK, this guide is for you. Laganas, the island's famous party resort, is busy all summer, and its bars, clubs and beach venues need seasonal staff – with the right preparation, that could be you.

Top Dog Abroad was founded by a close group of friends who worked a summer in Zante, and it's still where our heart is. This guide covers what UK workers need to know before a season there: the jobs, how they're lined up, documents, money, living arrangements and packing.

Why Zante?

Zante, also called Zakynthos, is a Greek island, and Laganas is its famous party resort. As Caoimhe, who spent a summer running our social media out there, puts it, Laganas is "one of the busiest party resorts in Europe".

Most resort work happens at night, so your days are usually your own: the beach, exploring the island, or just recovering from the night before. Our Zante 2027 jobs guide has more on what a summer there looks like.

Zante jobs for UK workers

Positions vary by venue, but these are the main Laganas season jobs:

  • Bar work – serving drinks in bars and clubs on the strip.
  • PR – promoting a venue and getting people through the door. See our guide to Zante PR jobs.
  • Club representative – promoting events and helping with front-of-house.
  • Ticket and shot selling – sales roles that are usually commission-led.
  • VIP hostess – looking after tables and guests in clubs and beach venues.
  • DJ, waiting staff and security – depending on what venues need.

For bar roles in particular, read our guide to bar jobs in Zante.

Do you need experience?

Not necessarily. Venues look for confidence, reliability and good people skills. Being outgoing and happy to work nights counts for a lot.

How your job is lined up

Turning up in Laganas with no plan and a pile of CVs is one way to do it, but it's a stressful first week. With Top Dog Abroad, our reps work to arrange participants' seasonal jobs before they arrive.

Your job is offered to you before you arrive in resort, and you're guaranteed a trial – after that, it's down to you to keep it.

A few things worth knowing about how work in Zante is set up:

  • Your accommodation and your job are separate. They're arranged independently of each other.
  • Pay is agreed with the venue. Pay, hours, benefits and conditions are agreed directly with the venue that employs you. There's no single "Zante wage", and some roles are commission-led.
  • Our reps are on the island all season, so you've always got someone to turn to.

Documents and paperwork

Don't stress about paperwork – venues in Zante help their staff sort out working documents, and our reps are on hand to help you with yours.

Before you fly, make sure you've got:

  • A passport that's valid for your whole trip
  • Travel insurance that covers your whole stay
  • Your GHIC (UK) or EHIC (Ireland) card for state healthcare
  • Copies of your passport, insurance and booking confirmation saved on your phone

Money: what to budget for

Greece uses the euro. Bring some cash for your first few days and a backup bank card kept separately from your main one, so you're not stuck if one goes missing.

The simplest rule: bring enough to cover your flight and your accommodation until your first wages come in. After that, think about food, nights out and day trips. Our guide to what a season in Laganas actually costs breaks down what to plan for.

Living in Laganas

Our Zante accommodation is shared, budget worker accommodation for seasonal workers. Here's how it works:

  • You can book a one-, two- or three-month stay, running between June and August.
  • Each booking is for one person – you're booking a space, not a private room.
  • Rooms are shared with two other people of the same gender.
  • Rooms are allocated separately by our team. If you're travelling with friends, add their names when you book.

Prices vary depending on which month and length of stay you choose, so check current prices and deposit options on the Zante accommodation page.

Living with other workers is a big part of the fun. Past workers talk about the group feeling like one big family, with events like meals, bar crawls and speed boat trips. If you're going on your own, don't worry – plenty of people travel solo and join the wider group.

Getting there and settling in

Remember to budget for your flight. Past workers say the support starts as soon as they land – one Trustpilot reviewer, Conor, said the team "looked after me with absolutely everything, from grabbing me from the airport to making sure I was settled in okay".

Packing tips for UK workers

A few UK-specific things to remember:

  • Plug adapter. Greece uses two-pin European plugs (types C and F), so your UK chargers will need an adapter. The voltage is 230V, the same as the UK.
  • Work clothes. Dress codes vary, so ask your venue. If you're unsure, plain black clothes and comfortable, grippy shoes are a safe start.
  • Sun cream. High-factor sun cream and after-sun – you'll get through a lot of it.

Our full season abroad packing list covers the rest.
