Bar Jobs in Zante: Working the Laganas Nightlife

Navagio (Shipwreck) Beach in Zante – turquoise bay beneath white limestone cliffs

Laganas is the kind of place where the night doesn't really get going until most people at home are asleep. The strip fills up, the music gets louder, and every bar and club needs staff who can keep up. If you're thinking about bar jobs in Zante, this guide covers what working in Laganas nightlife is really like, the roles going, what venues look for, and how to have your job lined up before you land.

I'm Caoimhe, and I spent last summer working nights in Zante doing social media for two bars/clubs on the strip, The Loft and Toucan Club. I wasn't behind the bar, but I was out on the strip and around the venues every night, so I know what a Laganas night feels like from the working side.

Why work in Laganas nightlife?

Zante (also known as Zakynthos) is a Greek island, and Laganas is its famous party resort. For me, the choice was easy: it's one of the busiest party resorts in Europe, some of the best artists in the world play there every summer, and it's very cost effective compared to a lot of other resorts.

The other big draw is the lifestyle. Most nightlife jobs are night-time jobs, which means your days are usually your own. Mine were completely free – tanning by the pool, heading to the beach, exploring the island, a trip to the water park or a very competitive round of mini golf.

What does bar work in Zante involve?

On our jobs page, bar work is described as serving drinks in bars and clubs while working at the centre of the resort atmosphere. In practice, a shift usually means some mix of:

  • Serving drinks quickly and accurately when it's busy
  • Taking payments and handling cash and card machines
  • Restocking fridges, ice and glasses
  • Keeping the bar clean, including at close
  • Chatting to customers and keeping the vibe up
  • Working alongside bar staff, security, PRs and management

Every venue does things a little differently, so you'll learn their way during your trial and first few shifts.

Other nightlife jobs in Laganas

Bar work isn't the only way to work the nightlife. Positions vary by resort and venue, but these roles are commonly available in our destinations:

  • PR – talking to holidaymakers, promoting a venue and getting people through the door. Read our guide to Zante PR jobs for more.
  • Shot seller – working inside busy venues, engaging customers and earning through sales.
  • VIP hostess – looking after tables and guests in clubs and beach venues.
  • DJ – playing bars, clubs and events and reading the crowd.
  • Security – helping venues run safely with calm, professional crowd management.
  • Club representative – promoting events and taking on a varied front-of-house role.

Some jobs don't fit neatly into a box, either – mine was filming interviews and nightlife content for the venues' Instagram and TikTok. Being open to more than one role can give you more options.

Do you need bar experience?

Not necessarily. Confidence, reliability and good people skills are essential – those are what venues care about most. Knowing how to pull a pint or make a cocktail helps, but it isn't everything. What makes a difference:

  • Being comfortable with people – you'll be talking to strangers all night.
  • Staying calm when it's busy – a packed bar late at night is no place to panic.
  • Being reliable – turning up on time, every shift.
  • Being happy to work nights – nightlife shifts are mostly evening and late-night.

If you've worked in a pub, restaurant, café or shop at home, mention it. Any customer-facing work shows you can handle people.

How does pay work?

There's no single "Zante bar wage". In Zante, pay, hours, benefits and working conditions are agreed directly with the employing venue, so it depends on the job, the venue and the role. Some roles, like shot selling, earn through sales. Ask how pay works when your job is offered.

As one real example from a different nightlife role: I worked roughly four hours a night doing social media.

How Top Dog Abroad lines up your job

You don't need to land with a stack of CVs and walk the strip in the heat hoping someone's hiring. Top Dog Abroad's reps work to arrange your job before you arrive. Your job is offered to you before you arrive in resort, and you're guaranteed a trial – after that, it's down to you to keep it. You can see how it all works on our jobs in Zante page.

Paperwork doesn't need to be a worry either – venues in Zante help their staff sort out working documents, and our reps are on hand to help you with yours. The reps are around in resort too: if we had any problems, they fixed them, and they were always available, which was a huge comfort at the start.

How to nail your trial (and keep the job)

  • Ask what to wear, and wear comfortable, closed shoes with grip – bar floors get wet.
  • Arrive early and rested. Turning up wrecked from the night before is the fastest way to lose a trial.
  • Learn the basics fast – where everything lives and the prices of the most popular drinks.
  • Keep busy when it's quiet. Wipe down, restock, collect glasses.
  • Ask questions rather than guessing an order.

Keeping the job all summer comes down to being someone the venue can count on: on time for every shift, respectful to customers, security and colleagues, and professional on your own nights out in the same resort. In Zante, your accommodation and your job are kept separate.
